Rumah Sehat Madani (RSM)


Rumah Sehat Madani (RSM) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing compassionate and effective maternal and general healthcare to disadvantaged families in Denpasar, Bali. Our two-room clinic is a place where expectant mothers can get the information and medical care they need to deliver healthy babies and raise healthy children.

We are currently building a larger clinic where babies will be born into a safe and caring environment, where midwives will be trained to empower and inform the families they work with, and where mothers from disadvantaged backgrounds will discover that they have the power to bring new life into the world. RSM believes that all families have the right to safe, compassionate and culturally sensitive healthcare, regardless of their wealth or social status.

Everyone is welcome at RSM, but we are particularly committed to providing a place where Muslim families can feel at home: where their religious and cultural needs will be understood and respected. Through education and expert advice we seek to empower people to take care of their own health and the health of their families. A welcoming and respectful environment is critical to this goal.

RSM aims to establish itself as an example of quality maternal and child healthcare and a demonstration of the benefits of gentle birth techniques. Gentle birth is about supporting mothers in ways that are safe, compassionate and empowering. It’s about trusting in the natural process of birth and making use of medical interventions only when necessary and at the informed request of the family.

RSM’s long-term vision is to contribute to the health of Indonesians not only by providing services to the mothers and families that attend our clinic, but also by encouraging a more compassionate, caring and sensible approach to maternal health and the birth process. Clinics like ours prove that gentle birth in Indonesia is both effective and achievable.


Brenda, a RSM coordinator, said "we have had 1-2 babies born every week of mothers that were having check-ups at RSM. During Ramadhan alone there were 5 babies! This shows that we are giving a very important service to the community. As well we treated at least 20 people every Wednesday at the acupuncture clinic during the holy month of Ramadhan".
